Universe 25 was an experiment carried out in 1972 by American ethologist John B. Calhoun on captive mice to study behavioral sink, indicating the transition to a destructive and deviant behavior in terms of overpopulation and overcrowding.

He created a structure for mice in which all the basic facilities such as unlimited food, water, controlled surrounding temperature and protection from predators and weather was provided which was called as Mouse Utopia.

Despite of that, mice population in Universe 25 maxed out to 2200 mice and then decreased rapidly resulting in extinction.

Thus result of Universe 25 was similar to all the 24 similar experiments carried out by John Calhoun, hence the name Universe 25.

Calhoun’s findings and observations on Universe 25 were published in the rather spookily titled paper Death Squared: The Explosive Growth and Demise of a Mouse Population, which immediately shot into the public consciousness and became at once controversial and a sobering looks into what could happen to humans as well.

More than four decades have passed since Calhoun conducted his Universe 25 experiment. Nonetheless, questions linger regarding the observations he drew from the rodent utopia's collapse. Most pressing is the question of human population, which globally could top 9.6 billion by 2050 if we stay on our current course.
