Over the last several seasons I have been setting up a train layout on the beach. They have all been a basic oval round mountains and over gorges with a castle, building and sometimes a tunnel too. A search along the wrack line often brings interesting items to add to the layout such as branches, logs, drift wood and sometimes lost toys. Hurricane Erin scoured the beach clean of these treasures this time but we did the best we could. Building a RR on the beach brings in curious kids of all ages and some decide to stay and help as you will see in this video.
If you have G scale trains and a beach nearby I say to give it a go and set up your own little RR. just don't do it close to the water with the tide coming in...
I setup a LGB Porter with a battery and a Piko RC unit for control. The cars are basic LGB tippers. In the past I have used short passenger cars. The 5' diameter curves with 4 straight pieces makes for a nice oval. When the RR is packed up and back home I give everything a rinse to remove the sand and salt.
Fun times.
