The ASEAN LDCs Project formally titled “New Trade Policy and strategy for ASEAN LDCs on market access and related issues” is a regional project implemented by UNCTAD supported by the Enhanced Integrated Framework. The ASEAN LDCs project is assisting Cambodia and Laos to maintain its market access especially to the QUAD countries which are Canada, the EU, Japan, and the US. Several trade agreements are pursued in the region currently which could erode the preferences of the ASEAN LDCs. In this context, the ASEAN LDCs project has completed several capacity-building exercises despite the COVID restrictions. Firstly, two webinars were conducted on Duty-Free Quota-Free Market Access showcasing the UNCTAD GSP website and how it could be used by the private sector and policymakers. Secondly, project activities were implemented aimed at building the technical capacities of Cambodian and Laos negotiators in terms of rules of origin. The training was attended by several negotiators from each of the countries. Thirdly, an executive workshop and a roundtable were conducted.
