LAPD Clears Homeless from Venice Beach Restrooms During Cleanup Operation

Venice, CA – March 28, 2025 – A multi-agency task force conducted a cleanup operation at Venice Beach on Friday, focusing on ongoing safety and sanitation concerns, particularly around public restroom facilities frequently used as shelter by unhoused individuals.

The effort included personnel from the Los Angeles Police Department, Department of Public Works, County Beaches and Harbors, and environmental specialists from Clean Harbors Environmental Inc.

During the operation, individuals occupying the restrooms were asked to vacate, allowing sanitation crews in protective gear to clear the facilities and dispose of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, with the aim of restoring public access and hygiene. The restrooms at the beach, which have often served as makeshift shelters for homeless individuals, were the focus of this operation, highlighting the city's broader commitment to improving public facilities and the living conditions of its homeless population.

Enforcement actions were carried out under Los Angeles Municipal Code 63.44(b), which prohibits camping in city parks and on beaches. The operation proceeded without major incident, with Park Rangers managing security and compliance.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) was on-site to provide outreach, distributing food, water, and hygiene kits. A representative from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office was also present, reflecting the city’s continued focus on balancing enforcement with supportive services.

City officials emphasized that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain public health and accessibility at Venice Beach, while working to connect unhoused individuals with available resources and long-term support.
