In this video we’re working on the canter depart. For a lot of people this can be scary because it’s so much faster. It is also a three-beat gait which is an odd rhythm for our bodies to settle into and get used to. We need to stay open and allow our pelvis to rock forward, absorbing the motion. If we’re gripped too much in the seat with our legs as the horse comes up and underneath, it will push you up and out of the saddle. Making these changes will help both you and the horse.
