Credit Suisse AT1 Bonds Worth $17 bn will be written down to zero as a part of the Credit Suisse takeover deal. AT1 bonds or additional tier 1 bonds are unsecured bonds that have no maturity date. AT1 bonds are issued by the banks to increase their capital. They are unsecured, perpetual bonds that banks issue to increase their core capital base to meet the Basel-III norms. These bonds have a call option and can offer a higher yield than other bank debt or corporate bonds.
