In this video, I kick off my six-month journey into aquaponics — a sustainable way to grow fresh vegetables and raise fish right here in Guam. With the rising cost of groceries and our island’s heavy reliance on imported food, I decided to take control of my family’s food supply by transforming a small 15x9 foot space into a self-sufficient garden.
Aquaponics combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil), using 90% less water and no chemical fertilizers. It's clean, efficient, and works perfectly in Guam's tropical climate.
This project isn’t just about saving money — it’s about food security, health, sustainability, and independence. In this video series, I’ll share my real-life experiences: the wins, the mistakes, and what I’ve learned along the way as a beginner experimenting with aquaponics and traditional gardening.
If you’re in the tropics or just interested in growing your own food, join me on this journey and see what’s possible — right in your own backyard.
