I use a watercolor background on sanded paper to painting an Eastern phoebe in pan pastel, soft pastel, and pastel pencil. Follow along if your curious about how to use various types of pastels to create a realistic painting!
This video is slightly sped up, but is close to real time to give you an accurate glimpse at the painting process.
Paper: Uart light sanded paper 8x6
Pencils: Stabilio CarbOrthello
Soft pastels: Richeson soft pastels, Blick soft pastels, PanPastels and some antique Grumbacher pastels (no longer made)
Blending: Sofft tools
Watercolors: Royal Langnikel
I use a pastel box by Heilman Design.
