Karakattam is an ancient folk dance of Tamil Nadu performed in praise of the rain goddess Mariamman.The ancient Tamil epic says that this type of dance derived from Bharatham and a mixture of multiple forms of Tamil dance forms like Bharatanatyam postures and mudras. Today you can see this dance in Tamil movies and in Tamil songs. Most notable movie dedicated to Karakattam is Karakattakaran. We got the chance to record this beautiful dance in Madurai Angaleeshwari Temple's 70th Year Urchavam. Thanks to Jothi, Parimalam, Maari for their beautiful dance and Boss Kumaneshan Team for their lovely Mridangam and Nadhaswaram music.
