Due to a broken rail at the Cicero Avenue (IL-50) grade crossing WB on the Pink Line, runs 319 and 320 were forced to be rerouted onto the Congress branch of the Blue Line enroute to Forest Park. These runs were on the O'Hare branch while the incident occurred and with Pink Line trains being short-turned at Central Park, they were sent to Forest Park.
This is quite rare because runs 308, 309, in the AM rush, and runs 319, 320, in the PM rush are scheduled 5000 series consists that run lite from 54th to Racine, then run in service between Racine and Jefferson Park. 5000 series cannot run daily on the Congress branch due to their weight and the poor track conditions on that line. This is why the CTA does not assign the 5000s entirely onto the Blue Line and sent Midway's 3200s, and these 4 rush hour trips, to supplement the Blue Line's current crowding and reliability issues.
Stay tuned for more!
