I got this cool old retro Westinghouse oscillating two speed fan from Lynne, who picked it up at an estate sale for me. She stated it was piled with junk, in a big plastic bin, that was buried in other junk, in a old barn in Ray Twp., Michigan.

I dissembled and cleaned it all up... was just packed full of dirt. It cleaned up really nice. It had paint peeling and big chips in the original hammer tone paint, so I decided to repaint it totally. I painted the motor, base and blade in a dark gray hammer tone. The blade / "finger" guard and metal piece that I made as a cover for the open part of the base, is gloss black.I show how I made the metal cover.
Upon a little research, I found the fan to be a early 40's era fan. The blades are made from a Westinghouse only product called "Micarta". Developed in 1911 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation, Micarta is known for being "The Steel of the Plastic Industry".
I made the Westinghouse logo in Photoshop. The logo is printed on chrome paper, and the ink was printed to give it that hammer tone look . It came out much better than I thought! I glued it on with a very thin smear of silicone. I also glued the metal cover on with a couple globs of silicone. Silicone is a awesome, long lasting adhesive.
I did order a propeller kit for the whirligig. My dad paid two bucks for it, and two big plastic blow mold Christmas candles, from the 60's era. When I pick up the candles, I will do a video on them. I left them there because I had the Escape, and there was just not enough room to fit them in, plus they were as dirty as the Westinghouse fan... didn't want all that dirt in the car.
My dad got me the whirligig at the same Ray Twp. farm estate sale sale. I got the blue Superior model 800 fan and hitch from Tom. Tom picked them up somewhere in Warren.... he lives in Warren. The Montgomery Ward Airline fan was given to me, from my friend Jeff, a good 30 years ago. I have used it a lot and still use it!
