MAKING HISTORY Married At First Sight UK in huge shake-up as bosses line up show-first with new weddings
The much-loved TV show has been running since 2015
MAFS UK is coming back to screens across the country later this month, and the series is set to make history.
Just the other day producers of the show shared a first glimpse of the new series with fans, posting some stunning snapshots of wedding set-ups via Instagram.
But fans of the hugely popular reality TV series have even more to be excited about this year, as the 2025 run of the show will be making history with something never seen before in the programme.
A show source said: "For the first time in MAFS UK history, there will be two gay weddings in the same series.
"In the upcoming run, which hits screens later this month, viewers will see a gay male pair and a lesbian twosome meet for the first time at the altar."
MAFS UK's first gay wedding was in 2021, where Dan McKee and Matt Jameson married at the altar.
The pair got on well during their time on the show, but sadly separated after just two years together.
In the following series, the show debuted its first lesbian wedding - Jenna Robinson and Zoe Clifton - who are still together to this day, and officially engaged.
Last season, Eve and Charlie also became wife and wife, though they did not stay together for very long due to undisclosed relationship issues and differing communication styles.
Though many LGBTQ+ couples have featured on the show, MAFS UK has never before had a series that features both gay and lesbian weddings in the same run.
Doing this is truly making history for the show, in an incredibly positive way among a sea of dating shows seeking to be more inclusive and fair in their representations of love.
The spokesperson continued: "The show has always had positive LGBTQ+ representation, and is hugely popular within the queer community.
"This is a really great step as for too long, dating shows have focused mainly on heterosexual couples."
Married At First Sight Australia featured its first LGBTQ+ couple - Craig Roach and Andy John - all the way back in 2016, only a year after the show began.
The relationship quickly soured though, ending just days later during the couple's honeymoon.
