In this lesson, we’re upgrading our enemies so they can finally damage the player — whether they’re close-range melee fighters or long-range casters that shoot magical orbs.
By the end of this video, every enemy in your game will be able to deal proper damage and interact with the player’s health system in a clean, professional way.
🔥 What You’ll Learn in This Lesson:
1. Melee Enemy Damage Using Physics Colliders
We start by giving melee enemies the ability to hurt the player using collider detection.
Whenever the enemy swings and the collision is active, the player takes damage. This gives you a clean and responsive hit reaction system that works perfectly with animation events or timed triggers.
2. Projectile Enemies That Shoot Magic Orbs
Next, we create enemies that fight from a distance using orb projectiles.
These casters will:
Aim at the player
Shoot a glowing orb
Move the orb using a projectile script
Detect collision
Apply damage
Trigger the hit VFX
You’ll learn how to:
Instantiate projectile prefabs at the enemy’s hand
Use transform.forward or direction vectors to aim at the player
Control projectile speed, lifetime, and impact
Make the hit effect appear on collision
Reduce player health with each hit
This gives your game real combat variety, letting you create:
Wizards
Fire demons
Skeleton archers
Magical beasts
Any long-range enemy you want
