Sow Your Chilli Seeds Now For A Fiery Summer Harvest!

There's not much to sow in January, but if you like the heat of chillies and super hot varieties at that - now is a good time to start thinking about sowing them due to their long germination period and quite frankly it satisfies the green fingered urge to try and grow something even in the depths of winter.

I'm sticking with the potting mix composition from @ChilliChump having had such success the other year after potting on the chillies into that. It's a 1:1:1 mix of compost, perlite and vermiculite and I had good germination rates in the same mix (perhaps weighted slightly towards the compost) last year to save on making varying different mixes.

Do make sure that you can keep them very warm and suitably moist for good germination. Some of the superhot varieties really need temps in excess of 25C to germinate well. You will also need sufficient light and heat to pot them on after germination so a heat mat and grow lights are pretty essential.
