Traveler Artist Highlight - Adele Anderson Lawton
The Shearwater Tile Mural, created by Mac Anderson’s daughter Adele Anderson Lawton, pays tribute to the work he and his brother Peter Anderson completed in the 1930s for the Ocean Springs Public School. That original mural still resides in its historic home, now known as the Mary C. Cultural Center. The creation of a tile mural is a painstaking process as each tile must be formed, decorated, and fired to fit together to create the image. Lawton has applied her mastery of form, color, and design to these murals while still pulling from her father’s aesthetic stylization.
