Bulcote Crossing, between Burton Joyce and Lowdham in 1984
This box was supervised by Lowdham signalbox and was not a block post. It had two distant signals and no stop signals other than the level crossing gates.
The crossing was renowned in the pre-H&S mania days for having no usable flush toilet and calls of nature were problematic due to the lack of privacy and surrounding gardens. The usual pre-H&S procedure was to use the embankment. A more usual tactic was to nip down to Lowdham and use the luxurious flush toilet during a quiet spell.
The levers from Bulcote appear to make an appearance in the Nottingham Goods Yard video on the S&T scrap pile in the yard
Despite this, Bulcote was a lovely place to work and have fond memories of long shifts there. Civilisation lost something of value with the advent of safety mania.

Watermarking:
Apologies for the watermarking. It is with huge regret that I've had to re-upload my content with a watermark across the images. This has been necessary due to a several instances this year (2024) of 3rd party claims of ownership over my own content (image theft). This includes someone apparently lifting images or content and distributing via DVD without attribution. Previously I've been happy to share and share for everyone's benefit without watermark, but when other people claim ownership over my content then action is necessary. All previous videos are retained but set to private access only to facilitate copyright claims should they appear elsewhere.
