Electrochemical cells are used to convert chemical energy into electrical energy. When the cell reaction cannot be reversed by providing electrical energy, such electrochemical cells are called “primary cells”
(i.e. non-rechargeable).
Leclanche cell and Daniell Cell are examples of Primary cells.
Some cells can be recharged by reversing the cell reaction (rechargeable), so these cells are referred to as “secondary cells”.
A lead accumulator is an example of Secondary cells.
