Today I was honored to receive the Brooklyn College President’s Award for Service in memory of the great Shirley Chisholm during their 100th Commencement Ceremony.
As a young organizer, I first met Ms. Chisholm while volunteering on her presidential campaign. Years later, I briefly attended Brooklyn College. I didn’t graduate, but I never stopped learning and never stopped fighting.
To be recognized in her name brings it full circle, thank you @bklyncollege411.
To the graduates, remember to let your degree be a tool for justice. Be bold, be brave, be unbought and unbossed in the spirit of Shirley Chisholm. Congratulations!
