I wanted to build a realistic Easter tomb… out of foam. It turned into a journey of burning plastic, and a crash course in sculpting techniques with bonus tips I picked up from Mardi Gras float builders.
In this video, you’ll see:
The tools and tricks I used to shape insulation foam into a massive tombstone-like rock
Why a bent hot knife blade completely changed my approach
How I glued, carved, coated, and painted the foam to get a natural look
The painful lesson I learned (literally) about handling melted foam. Using techniques like washes, heat texturing, and weatherproof coating
The final reveal in its setting, complete with me dressed as a Roman soldier
This project pushed me past my comfort zone with foam sculpting. If you’ve ever wondered how far you can take DIY foam builds, this is a great starting point.
