San Bernardino Residential Structure Fire Displaces Six

San Bernardino County Fire crews quickly controlled a fire which began in a bedroom and threatened the remainder of the home Thursday on the 1700 block of Hardt Street in the city of San Bernardino. A total of six occupants of the home were displaced as a result of the fire.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the rear of the single-story home, entering through the front door with hoselines while truck company personnel opened ventilation holes on the roof to aid interior operations. The fire was knocked down in under 15 minutes, preventing major damage to the rest of the structure.

Three adults were home at the time of the fire, all of whom evacuated safely. First-arriving personnel assisted an adult female in a wheelchair from just outside the front door to a safer area, where she was treated by paramedics and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a minor illness.

Firefighters rescued several pets, including three dogs and one kitten. Unfortunately one cat was found deceased and three others were not located. San Bernardino Animal Control was called to assist.

The American Red Cross was dispatched to support the displaced family, which included five adults and one child.

Six engines, one truck company, a battalion chief and two investigators responded.

County Fire thanks crews from Loma Linda and Redlands Fire Departments for their assistance on the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Office of the Fire Marshal.
