Advice - Porfiry Petrovich inspired song |"Crime and Punishment" by F. M. Dostoevsky

Описание:

«Why, you couldn't give yourself away more than you have, Rodion Romanovitch, my dear boy»

The investigator Porfiry Petrovich from Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel "Crime and Punishment" had no doubts about Rodion's guilt, but, alas, all the evidence was "two-edged".

This song is a reflection of the subtle, ironic game the investigator played with his suspect, gently but persistently leading him to confession.

Porfiry Petrovich - Advice

You were the last one left to show,
While others ran to trace their pawn.
They rushed to ask, they came in fear,
For chains, for rings, for things held dear.
And you? Breezed in with laughter, loud,
No signs of worry, not a cloud —
Though you, of all, had least to keep:
One ring, one watch — and none but me
could tell you didn’t care for those.
You asked — but not to ease your woes.
You came to find out what I know.
And in that calm, that hollow cheer —
I saw the killer — standing here.

Oh, you already have confessed,
But please, sit down and be my guest.
I read your words — “The Extraordinary Man”,
How some may step across the law for a plan.
You wrote of those who break the chain,
Who spill the blood to build their reign.
And when I wondered — “This crime we face —
Could it be one of that proud race?
Some new Napoleon, bold and free,
Who walks through blood to claim his fee?” —
You didn’t answer me. Just fled
And left your soul among the dead.
No need for words, no guilt expressed…
Oh, you already have confessed.

You came to prove you’re strong, above the law,
A god in rags, fixing nature’s flaws.
But when the painter knelt and cried,
“Mine is the sin!” — you froze inside.
I had my moment — I pulled the thread,
Prepared the stage - the trap was set.
One door. One man. The final blow.
And then he came and stole the show.
Mikolka the fool, with paint-stained hands,
Confessed to a crime he did not understand.
And you were shaking like a leaf.
A victor chattering his teeth.

Oh, you already have confessed,
A student who failed his own test.
Watch how your triumph turns into a loss —
An innocent man will take your cross.
You mocked me with a trembling voice -
A hollow pride, a put-on poise.
He wept for sins he did not do,
For suffering - to make him true.
Not far from here, a mind still fights —
To hold a crown of stolen rights.
A king in shackles none can see
Who still won’t take the painter’s key.
No wonder he is so depressed…
Oh, you already have confessed.

Well, go and walk for a day or three.
No, you won’t run. You will come to me.
You’ve climbed those stairs, you’ve rung the bell,
You’ve asked about the blood as well.
You could have used this time to hide
But chose to stand there, lost inside —
To feel the chill, to court the dread,
To walk the path you once have fled.
Your prison isn’t made of stone —
It’s made of thought. You are not alone.
You’re serving out your sentence now —
In silence, sweat, in furrowed brow.
No bars, no chains, no cell, no key…
Just guilt that drags you back…
To me.

Oh, you already have confessed,
Why should I bother with your arrest?
An angel pale, you just walk and despise,
Above us mere mortals — but not beyond lies.
I’m not your jailer. I’m not your foe.
I’m the one who lets you know:
The cage was never locked — you stayed
Because you needed to be saved.
What you need now is fresh air
And there is plenty out there
Just lift the burden off your chest,
Oh, you already have confessed.

So come, don’t wait, don’t hide, don’t fight —
The night is over - dawn is in sight.
Three days are short, the clock will chime —
But mercy waits beyond the crime.
I’ll stand beside you, not behind —
A lighter cross, a gentler bind.
You’ve carried it too long, too far…
Now lay it down. You know who you are.
Become the sunrise shining bright —
The world will turn to face your light.
No need to plan, no need to prove,
Just be the Sun and live the Truth.

You already have confessed.
Now just speak it.
Before the silence speaks for you.
