I love Verbena rigida. It gives a burst of colour from now to early autumn, providing much needed late season beauty. I like its soft, loose habit and I think it works well in a range of planting schemes from traditional cottage garden to modern, ornamental grasses.
Verbena rigida likes a sunny position and moist, well drained soil. It doesn't like excessive winter wet so make sure your soil is well drained. I find it to be a short lived perennial and not fully hardy and so I sometimes treat it as an annual.
Verbena rigida is great in pots or borders. I've planted it in this pot with Salvia microphylla 'Delice Lilac Rose'. They like the same conditions and flower at the same time. Both are attractive to pollinators. What's not to like?!
