Join Green Frog for another look at fascinating train action in the 1990's. In that decade the Indiana and Ohio short line acquired Grand Trunk's (former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton, ) Flat Rock Sub on February 15, 1997.
Since the Indiana & Ohio didn't have enough locomotive power at the time of the takeover, they had to lease Grand Trunk locomotives) many were former DT&I diesels). When the Grand Trunk sold that line , the track was in pretty sad shape and slow order speeds of 10-20 were the norm. Later, as the I&O was able to acquire their own power, I&O painted locomotives as they came on line and the track was repaired and upgraded for faster speeds.
Another transaction took place when NS and CSX took administrative control of Conrail on August 22, 1998.
This video depicts the before and after train action of the Grand Trunk, the Indiana & Ohio, and the pre and post merger split of Conrail. All kinds of Fallen Flag locomotives are displayed in this program. You'll see Conrail freight locos as well as the E-8 Office Car Special locos.
Additional Fallen Flag locos depicted are from the DWP, BN, Seaboard System, Wisconsin Central, and Susquehanna. Additional modern day locos from NS (including many high nose models) and CSX in many different paint schemes are shown.
Locations included: Painesville, Fairborn, Springfield, Dayton, Miamisburg, Thackery, DeGraff, Snyderville, Sidney, Quincy, Swanders, Wapakoneta, Lima, Enon, Troy, and Galetea, all in Ohio.
Approx: 99 minutes, full color, sound, informative onscreen graphics
