Toyota Highlander Hybrid / Lexus RX400h Timing Belt, Water Pump & Seals - V6 3MZ-FE (2006 - 2010)

This video will show you how to replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, camshaft seals and crankshaft seal on a 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid with the 3.3L 3MZ-FE V6 engine (2006 - 2010) and the Lexus RX400h (2006 - 2008). What are the differences between the hybrid and non hybrid V6's? There's no alternator, the a/c compressor is driven by a electric motor and there's no power steering pump (believe there's an electric motor tied to the steering column shaft). The brake fluid reservoir has been moved from the driver's side firewall to the passenger side and a smaller battery moved from the left front corner to the right front corner of the engine compartment. As for the fore mentioned differences, replacement of the timing belt and belt related components is no different than a regular V6 Highlander.
Since I've done numerous MZ-FE belt replacements, at a moderate pace, I can complete this repair in under 5 hours with my tool set. For first time DIY at home mechanics, with the right tools, approximately 8 to 12 hours. You will see in this video I use powered electric impact tools which increases my productivity by at least 50%.

You need this to hold the camshaft sprockets when removing the camshaft bolts.

If you do not feel comfortable using a chain strap wrench to remove the camshaft pulley bolt, you can try using a universal pulley holder tool. You'll need to use this in conjunction with a "cheater bar".
