In the remote landscapes of northern China, a small travelling opera troupe keeps alive one of the country’s oldest and most spectacular traditions: Jinju, an ancestral art form blending music, dance, and theatre. For centuries, these performances honored the gods and entertained entire villages.

Today, the actors carry this heritage from town to town, year after year, determined to preserve a cultural treasure threatened by modernity and rural exodus. Their life is a road movie of devotion and resilience, where each performance becomes an act of resistance against forgetting.

As China changes at lightning speed, these troupes stand as the last custodians of an eternal tradition. Their mission is not only to perform but also to pass on the spirit of Jinju to future generations—ensuring that the rhythm, the colors, and the gestures of this art will not vanish.
