The talk is about young adult hip pathology and its relevance to the FRCs exams.
Young adult hip pathology is a grey zone that falls between pediatrics and geriatrics, and includes adult hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, and avascular necrosis of the hip.
Adult hip dysplasia is either residual or unrecognized dysplasia from childhood and can lead to unequal distribution of forces on the acetabulum, resulting in pain and arthritis.
The two main angles that should be assessed for adult hip dysplasia are the lateral center angle and the acetabular index, and an MRI scan is recommended for further imaging.
Management options for adult hip dysplasia include non-operative, preservation, and hip replacement options, with pre-operative planning being crucial for complex cases.
