This is a compilation of clips from a windy day at RSPB Lakenheath Fen.
You can watch the female banded demoiselle take off from a leaf and return to the same leaf.
Banded demoiselles are damselflies, so perch with their wings folded back; their eyes are separate on each side of the head, unlike dragonflies, which perch with wings open and have eyes joined at the front of their heads.
Their flight is fluttering when compared to a dragonfly.
The hissing sound in the video is the wind blowing through the trees, the roaring sound from jets at RAF Lakenheath, and the crackles a faulty microphone jack.
I am grateful as always to the staff and volunteers on the RSPB reserve who maintain such wonderful habitats.
Enjoy!
