This male Anna’s x Costa hybrid hummingbird has a dazzling display of his gorget, by controlling the angle of his head and throat feathers. A steep angle shows them black , but as soon as the starts putting them down, a colorful display starts from blue over purple to raspberry red. When this happens for all of them he is flashing his head in raspberry red. But he seems to control each feather on its own resulting in some intriguing color patterns that can moving over his entire head.
