Do humans have a right to nature? In this tender documentary, director Charlotte Sawyer follows a community of wild swimmers in Bristol (UK) whose deep connection to the River Avon collides with a growing crisis: raw sewage pollution. England is one of only two countries in the world with a fully privatised water and sewage system, and with just 14% of rivers in good ecological health, the fight to keep waterways clean is far from won.
Swimming in the Avon is officially prohibited, and the water often carries dangerous levels of sewage, chemicals, and farm run-off. For those who love the river, this creates a painful dilemma: the very source of joy and healing could also bring them harm. Blending humour, activism, and heartfelt stories, the film offers a poignant reflection on grassroots resistance and our shared responsibility to protect the natural world.
