Hi Everyone, I had a bearing starting to go out on my original GM alternator, 2005 Chevy Silverado. After replacing with a genuine Delco gold replacement, I started having flickering headlight issues and general poor voltage regulation. Replacing with a second Delco did not resolve. I finally arrived at solution by borrowing parts from my original GM one. I suspect this issue has happened to others out there and hope this solution works for you as well.
Note, this truck uses a battery management system that varies the alternator output based on signals from the negative battery cable ammeter/sensor. I think this system was introduced in 2005 up until today. This problem may not exist on 2004 and earlier, I believe those trucks also used a different alternator with a 4-Pin connector.
If someone out there knows of a new regulator that also resolves the issue on the 2-Pin alternators of this vintage, I'd be really interested to know about it. Please comment.
