As of January 2025, the Ukrainian Air Force is undergoing significant modernization to enhance its capabilities amid ongoing conflicts. Key developments include the acquisition of Western fighter jets, notably the F-16 Fighting Falcons and Dassault Mirage 2000s. The United States approved the transfer of F-16s from Denmark and the Netherlands, with Denmark pledging 19 aircraft and the Netherlands 42. The first batch of 18 F-16s from the Netherlands was delivered in December 2023, and subsequent deliveries have continued into 2024 and 2025. Norway and Belgium have also committed to supplying F-16s, with Belgium's deliveries expected in 2025.

In addition, France has pledged to transfer between 12 and 20 Mirage 2000 fighters, with all deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.

These acquisitions aim to replace Ukraine's aging Soviet-era aircraft, such as the MiG-29, and provide enhanced air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities. The integration of these Western jets is expected to improve Ukraine's air defense and offensive operations, contributing to a more robust and modernized air force.
