China has deployed a new photonic AI chip inside real data centers — not as a prototype, not in a lab, but in operational environments right now.
The chip, developed by ChipX in partnership with Turing Quantum, has been described as up to 1,000 times more efficient than Nvidia GPUs for specific workloads.
It recently won the Leading Technology Award at the World Internet Conference 2025 in Wuzhen.
