L’Associazione Sbandieratori di Tradizione Astigiana (A.S.T.A.) nasce nell’anno 1968 a seguito della ripresa della storica Corsa del Palio avvenuta nel 1967 e si presenta per la prima volta al pubblico della propria città nell’aprile del 1969.

Nel 1970 il Consiglio del Palio , presieduto dal Sindaco, conferisce all’A.S.T.A. il prestigioso titolo di “Sbandieratori del Palio di Asti”.

Il Gruppo, nato dal Palio, ne diventa il “biglietto da visita” ufficiale in Italia e nel mondo.

Lo spettacolo che viene proposto si ricollega alla tradizione astigiana del gioco di bandiere nelle sue espressioni storico-sportive già citate in documenti ufficiali del 1275. I costumi sono fedeli riproduzioni medievali e le bandiere presentano i colori dei Borghi, Rioni e Comuni che corrono il Palio la terza domenica di settembre.

Il Gruppo, composto da circa 80 atleti, tra musici (tamburini e trombettieri) e sbandieratori, offre una spettacolare varietà di esibizioni, occupando uno spazio temporale che può variare da 30 a 60 minuti.

In oltre 40 anni di attività, numerosissime sono state le partecipazioni a importanti manifestazioni folcloristiche, storiche e a trasmissioni televisive in Italia e all’Estero.

Dal 2012 il Gruppo ha fondato la sezione “Junior”, composta, tra sbandieratori e musici, da oltre 70 giovanissimi, dai 7 ai 16 anni: gli junior partecipano all’attività sociale con le trasferte del Gruppo e alle gare federali.

L’A.S.T.A. si è esibita in Francia, Spagna, Gran Bretagna, Germania, Svizzera, Austria, Ungheria, Repubblica Ceca, Bulgaria, Irlanda, Scozia, Svezia, Portogallo, Belgio, U.S.A (New York, Miami, Atlanta), Giappone (Tokio, Kyoto, Osaka) ricevendo sempre il caloroso apprezzamento del pubblico e importanti riconoscimenti tra i quali, particolarmente ambito, il premio “Maschera d’argento” per i benemeriti del turismo

L’impegno dell’A.S.T.A. ha prodotto frutti importanti: infatti sulla scia dell’esperienza dell’A.S.T.A. è nata una vera e propria «scuola astigiana» di sbandie­ratori che viene continuamente alimentata dai vari Rioni.

I Comitati Palio hanno creato, in­fatti, gruppi autonomi ed altrettanto validi che difendono i colori di ogni borgo.

The Sbandieratori of the A.S.T.A. and the game of the flag.

The Associazione Sbandieratori di Tradizione Astigiana (A.S.T.A.) was founded in 1968 following the revival of the historic Corsa del Palio in 1967 and is presented for the first time to the public of its city in April 1969.

In 1970 the Council of the Palio, chaired by the Mayor, conferred on the A.S.T.A. the prestigious title of "Sbandieratori del Palio di Asti".

The Group, born of the Palio, becomes its official symbol in Italy and in the world.

The show that is proposed is linked to the tradition of the game of banners in its historical and sporting expressions already mentioned in official documents of 1275. The costumes are faithful medieval reproductions and the flags present the colors of the villages, districts and municipalities that run the Palio.

The Group, composed of about 80 athletes, including musicians (drummers and trumpeters) and flag-wavers, offers a spectacular variety of performances, occupying a space that can vary from 30 to 60 minutes.

In over 40 years of activity, many have participated in important folklore events, historical events and TV programs in Italy and abroad.

The commitment of the A.S.T.A. has produced important fruits: in fact on the wake of the experience of the A.S.T.A. a real "Asti school" of flag-wavers was born, which is continuously fed by the various districts.

In fact, the Palio Committees have created autonomous and equally valid groups that defend the colors of each village.
