ThreatLocker CEO Danny Jenkins breaks down Iranian cyberattack risks
On June 26, 2025, during NewsNation's Morning in America, anchor Markie Martin interviewed cybersecurity expert and ThreatLocker CEO Danny Jenkins about U.S. Homeland Security warnings regarding escalating Iranian cyber threats.
Jenkins said the U.S. should expect a significant increase in cyberattacks from Iran. He explained that Iran often uses denial-of-service (DOS) attacks or wiper malware, which completely erases systems and renders them unrecoverable—typically without any ransom demands.
He noted that Iranian cyberattacks, much like those from Russia, often occur independently of physical warfare. “This is Iran’s way of attacking the U.S. without being held accountable,” Jenkins said.
While the federal government has relatively strong cybersecurity practices—such as FedRAMP standards for contractors—Jenkins warned that local governments, utilities, and businesses are much more vulnerable. He pointed to the Colonial Pipeline attack as an example of how infrastructure can be a more accessible target than, say, the U.S. Navy.
Jenkins urged everyday Americans to be vigilant with personal finances and sensitive data. He advised locking credit reports and being careful about who receives personal information. Identity theft and spear-phishing attacks remain daily threats. U.S. cybercrime costs are estimated at $320 billion annually—even without escalated international tensions.
Globally, cyberwarfare has become a major component of modern conflict, particularly in the Middle East. Jenkins said leaders in Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE are increasingly focused on cybersecurity as a central part of national defense.
