Today I took a walk in Kappabashi!
Kappabashi is a shopping district located between Asakusa and Ueno in Tokyo, mainly consisting of stores specializing in cooking utensils and restaurant-related items. It is sometimes called "Kappabashi Kitchen Town" in English.
The area attracts a large number of visitors, from professional chefs to cooking enthusiasts. The area is lined with about 170 stores and offers a wide variety of cooking utensils, including knives, pots, pans, tableware, and even food samples. Food samples are especially popular among tourists for their realistic appearance and unique designs.
There are several theories as to the origin of the name Kappabashi, but one theory is that it derives from the fact that there used to be a river (kappa) in this area. Statues of kappa (legendary Japanese creatures) can also be seen along the street, delighting visitors.
Kappabashi is especially attractive to those interested in cooking and looking for unique Japanese kitchenware. When sightseeing, it is best to visit in conjunction with Senso-ji Temple and other tourist attractions.
