The #iroquois Confederacy, also known as the Haudenosaunee, is composed of six member tribes. These tribes are:
#mohawkgames (Kanienʼkehá꞉ka): The easternmost tribe, known for their location in the Mohawk Valley in present-day New York.
#oneida (Onyota'a:ka): Located to the west of the Mohawk, in what is now central New York.
#Onondaga (Onöñda’gega’): The central and spiritual tribe, with their homeland near present-day Syracuse, New York. The Great Council of the Confederacy meets in the Onondaga territory.
#cayuga (Guyohkohnyo or Gayogohó:no): South of the Onondaga, in the Finger Lakes region of New York.
#seneca (Onödowá'ga’:): The westernmost tribe, residing in the Genesee River Valley in present-day New York and extending into what is now Ohio.
#Tuscarora: The last tribe to join the Confederacy, added in the early 18th century. Originally from the Carolinas, they moved north and settled with the Iroquois Confederacy after being displaced by European colonization.
These six tribes formed a unique political and social alliance, known as the League of the Iroquois or the Iroquois Confederacy, which played a significant role in the history of North America.
