This video presents a Song Dynasty Jizhou Kiln black-glazed tea bowl specimen with “partridge-feather” spots, recorded under high magnification. Jizhou Kiln, active during the late Tang and flourishing in the Song period in Yonghe, Jiangxi, is renowned for its black-glazed ceramics. Among them, the “partridge-feather” (zhegu ban) decoration is the most representative, created through natural crystallization of iron-rich glaze during firing.

Microscopic images reveal:

Iron crystallization forming natural golden-yellow, silver-gray, and white spots.

Thick and glossy glaze surface with rainbow-like kiln-transmutation.

Fine, grayish-white clay body consistent with authentic Jizhou wares.

This specimen reflects both the refined tea culture of the Song Dynasty and the remarkable craftsmanship of Chinese ceramics.
