In this special episode, Iain is joined by renowned Lamborghini historian Olivier Nameche to explore the fascinating and often overlooked history of the Lamborghini Islero.
With two examples of this rare model in the workshop, the pair delve into the unique stories behind each car, including one particularly significant example formerly used by the Lamborghini Press Office. This Islero was part of a historic journey to Spain, where Ferruccio Lamborghini visited Don Miura, the famed breeder of the Miura bulls, at his El Toro ranch. Now undergoing a full restoration, Iain is faced with the challenge of rediscovering how certain aspects of the car were originally built, in order to return it to authentic factory condition.
Olivier shares key insights into the development of the Islero and its context within Lamborghini’s broader story, touching on the involvement of figures such as Giampaolo Dallara and test driver Bob Wallace. The discussion highlights the subtle engineering and design choices that defined the Islero, and why it remains a lesser known but pivotal part of Lamborghini's early history.
Also featured in this episode is a beautifully preserved Lamborghini 400 GT, currently in the workshop for an engine rebuild. Olivier discusses the evolution of this model and reveals some of the lesser-known design details, such as the unique development path that led to the car’s modified headlights.
A Lamborghini Jalpa also makes an appearance, prompting a wider conversation on its origins from the Urraco and Silhouette. Iain and Olivier discuss how various prototype elements from that era, including the five-hole alloy wheels later used on the Countach, represent a continuity of design within the Lamborghini lineage.
To round things off, Iain reveals a new set of enhancements he's been working on for the Lamborghini V12 engine, building on years of experience and careful development. Stay tuned for a video sharing the full details soon.
This in-depth episode is a must-watch for those interested in Lamborghini’s early models, Italian automotive engineering, and the process of accurate classic car restoration.
