【151】曼珠沙華まつり 府中市郷土の森｜Red Spider Lily Festival, Fuchu City Local Forest

武蔵野の面影を色濃く保存した府中市郷土の森に秋の訪れを告げる深紅の曼珠沙華が咲きました。その様子をお伝えします。後半は府中に現存していました、建物を紹介しています。
　🖋曼珠沙華はサンスクリット語のmanjusaka。「天上に咲く赤い花」という意味です。
かつて多摩川近くに水田が広がり、土手や用水路の傍らにこの花がたくさん咲いていました。
そうした昔なつかしい風景を再現しようと、近くの農家から球根を譲り受け、植えたのは10年以上も前のことでした。その後、地道に博物館スタッフが植え続け、現在はなんと40万株に増えたそうです。　--以上府中市郷土の森博物館ホームページより抜粋--

Deep crimson spider lilies, heralding the arrival of autumn, have bloomed in Fuchu City's Local Forest, which retains a vivid resemblance to Musashino. This article reports on the event. The second half introduces a building that still stands in Fuchu.
🖋The word "manjushaka" comes from the Sanskrit word "manjusaka," meaning "red flower blooming in the heavens."
Rice paddies once spread near the Tama River, and these flowers bloomed abundantly along the banks and irrigation channels.
More than 10 years ago, in an effort to recreate this nostalgic landscape, museum staff received bulbs from a nearby farm and planted them. Since then, museum staff have steadily planted them, and the number has now increased to an astounding 400,000. --Excerpted from the Fuchu City Local Forest Museum website--
