Power Steering Pump exploration on 2008 Accord 2.4

Six years ago the factory power steering pump on the high mileage 2008 Accord 2.4 developed oil leak from the gap between the pump body and back cover due to the hardened seals. The owner purchased the new aftermath pump from Rock Auto for 1/2 of the store price. About a week ago the pump stopped working (it was spinning but not circulating fluid in the system). I took it apart and transferred few o-rings to the original pump, while trying to determine what caused lack of pressure; still have few items to check.

FYI The air can be pulled into the pump not only via the hardened o-ring around the inlet fitting, but also into the fluid return passage from the pressure control valve via the gap between the housing and back cover.
