IPv6 replaces the age-old IPv4 ARP with the Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP). Both answer the same question: Given the IP address of another host on the same subnet, what data link address does the device use? However, rather than keep ARP around for IPv6, the people who created IPv6 improved the mechanism for finding that answer. The IPv6 standards also organize several vital functions as part of NDP, with neighbor discovery being just one of NDP’s functions.
This video focuses solely on NDP for neighbor discovery. You’ll see the basics, how it compares with IPv4 ARP. The video details how and why NDP works better (multicast addresses). It closes with the practical: Examples of a host and router NDP neighbor table (the equivalent of the IPv4 ARP table)
