Make Better Cosplay Using Historical Research || Project Intro + 1860's Victorian Fashion History

A lot of popular costume designs are at least somewhat influenced by historical fashion, even if it's just that they have a big princess skirt! So understanding the different time periods and what goes into supporting and making similar garments can really improve the look of your cosplays. For costumes that look fairly historical I always try to match up the most similar fashion period and do a lot of research into the construction methods and the supportive undergarments - after all, if it was done for decades or centuries in a certain way, it probably works pretty well! You can even find some tricks for making clothes that can be applicable to costumes that are more fantastical than historical, but maybe I'll try that for a different video. I'm choosing to give an overarching history in this video so I can get more specific into each individual garment later in the series.

My next big project is going to be Hannah Alexander's Alice in Wonderland design. The silhouette is very similar to gowns made in the 1860's or mid-Victorian era so I've done some research into that time period and wanted to share it with you guys! Because fashion is so heavily influenced by current events I've gone a little bit into the general historical context as well, but the history section isn't super long I promise! This isn't my usual style of video so hopefully it's still enjoyable and informative, but if you have any constructive criticism I'd love to know how I can improve 😊
