Box Hill is a good one if you want a tough but short hike, with incredible views. It's located in Surrey, and less than an hour train ride from London.
Distance: This route I did is 4 miles circular. Its just 1/2 a mile to reach the bottom of the hill from the station.
Difficulty: Moderate. The steps are tough, but the rest is alright.
How to get there: Direct trains from London Victoria, and London Waterloo to Box Hill and Westhumble. Journey time 47-56min.
If coming by car, there are a few cars parks about, at the bottom and top of Box Hill.
Elevation: Highest point is 224m.
