A once in a lifetime experience visiting the tigers at Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, Thailand as part of an excursion by Bangkok Day Tours. Tiger Temple or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua Yanasampanno as it's known is a Theravada Buddhist temple founded in 1994 as a forest temple and sanctuary for wild animals. The day started with serving the monks breakfast and then eating with them in the temple surrounded by 6 adolescent tigers. After breakfast, we bottle fed the tigers and took loads of photos. We then walked a tiger from the temple area down to the bathing spot where everyone on the excursion was able to wash and feed chicken to the tigers by hand. From here we walked to an enclosure where we held a bright colored sock on a stick and shook the sock in the branches of a low hanging tree to get the tigers to jump for the sock. From the enclosure, we walked a fully grown adult tiger down to the pool area for a famous 'head-in-lap' photo and watched as the trainers entered the pool area with 4 grown tigers and played keep away with the sock for everyone's enjoyment. Special thanks to 'Bo' the tour guide for her wealth of knowledge and expert photography/videography and to our driver Tong and all the volunteers at the Tiger Temple site.
