Building on our widely used 2006 publication, this new guide responds to today’s humanitarian landscape — more complex, protracted, and interconnected than ever before. It introduces updated definitions, practical explanations, and tailored guidance for humanitarian contexts across seven criteria:

Shaped by extensive global consultation, the guide is designed to be practical, flexible, and accessible, whether you’re managing, commissioning, or conducting evaluations.

In this launch event, we explore:
