Former Home Affairs secretary Mike Pezzullo has discussed reports on Russia seeking to have a military base in Indonesia, calling it a “firestorm”.
Indonesia has assured Australia it will not allow Russian planes to operate an air base on its soil.
“I think the government’s handled the matter very well,” Mr Pezzullo told Sky News Australia.
“What is deeply concerning though … that the PM and others might be privy to particular information that either validates, corroborates, or indeed perhaps even goes further than the Janes report.
“What’s concerning though here is the pattern.”
