The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle [GSLV] is currently being developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation [ISRO]. On successful completion of the programme, India would become self-sufficient in launching heavy, commercial, communication satellites from its own soil as well as being able to do the same for other nations. It is also to launch India's second mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan-2.
India also operates the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle [PSLV], developed for launching smaller-sized, lighter satellites and placing them in the desired orbit -- sun synchronous or geostationary. It has an extremely high success rate, having performed 17 consecutive successful launches & has placed a total of 41 satellites in orbit, including one in which it put in orbit 10 satellites in a single launch -- a world record.
