At the beginning of this video, I re-demonstrated how to do the front neck facing on the Camber Dress by using two different quilting cottons. It was difficult to demonstrate techniques using navy blue wool during last week's video. In case you missed it, here's the link: • Merchant & Mills Camber Dress Tips & Trick...
The yoke and shoulder seams are also difficult to see in the navy blue wool, so I made a two-color quilting cotton mock-up for them, as well. The first step is to baste the shoulder seams with a 3/8" seam allowance by sandwiching the front shoulders between the yoke and the yoke facing. The yoke and the shoulder seam are right-sides-together, and the right side of the yoke facing is connected to the wrong side of the front shoulder seam.
Next, pin the back neck seams of the yokes together. Starting at one shoulder, stitch again, this time on the actual seam allowance (5/8"). Pivot at the neck seam allowance, keeping the front neckline out of the way. Stitch along the back neckline using a 3/8" seam allowance, and stop at the center back. Start again at the other shoulder and finish at the center back, overlapping the previous stitching a little bit.
Press all seams open, turn the yoke right-side-out, and press flat.
With right sides together, sew the main back piece to the back yoke, leaving the yoke lining free. Press the seam up, toward the yoke. Pin the yoke lining to the back yoke and hand-stitch it in place, hiding the yoke/main back seamline.
Next time, I'll talk about sewing up the side seams, and show you how to insert the sleeves.
