Falconry: Handling talons and footing

In this falconry video, I discuss talons, gripping, and the dangers out being footed by a raptor, and what to do if that happens. I describe the different talons, feet and hunting styles of falcons, buteos (buzzards) accipiters (true hawks) owls and eagles. Falconry techniques have been developed and fine tuned for thousands of years. If a falconer, rehabilitator or wildlife educator follows these practices properly, the chances of getting injured are extremely rare. But they do still happen. The first half of this video discusses different raptors grip styles and feet and talons. The second half of this falconry video discusses practical and effective ways to handle the accidental situation of getting footed or grabbed by a raptors talons and how to get untangled without harming the bird of yourself.
