⋆˙⟡ concert review + tips ⟡˙⋆
hi! it was my first time at this venue so i thought i’d vlog the process for all my fellow planners. right away, i noticed there were a lot of staff around to help with parking. i usually don’t park at the venue because it takes forever to get out but this time i was able to leave right away, thanks to the other drivers who kindly gave way.
according to the “know before you go” email, floor ticket holders could pick up their wristbands until 3 pm. i arrived a bit late so they told me to pick it up inside instead. i joined the line around 3:30 pm. one of the lead staff members walked around saying we could ask her anything while we waited which was a nice touch. the parking attendants and staff were nice and helpful. around 3:55 pm, they started bag checks. compared to other venues like the novo, security here felt a bit more relaxed. so i saw fans using dji osmos, selfie sticks & even pro cameras. they also had a fast lane for people who didn’t bring bags which sped things up. we were let in around 4:08 pm and i went straight to pick up my wristband and explore the venue. there were lots of food stalls, nothing too different from other concerts, and plenty of seating. after taking some photos and videos, i headed to my seat.
*tip #1: if you’re buying tickets for a summer concert here, try to avoid the left side of the venue (facing the stage), it’s directly in the sun and gets really hot.
when i got to my seat, i noticed my seatmates were wearing vip lanyards. i asked how they knew they were vips. maybe they got a vip email? but no, we all got the same generic “know before you go” one. i asked how they figured out they were vips when nothing on the ticket said so. one seatmate said her ticket was over $1k so she just showed up early, showed her ticket and got a vip. another said he saw on twitter that our section was vip so he tried going early and it worked. at that point, my heart sank. it turns out i had the ultimate pink blood vip ticket — the highest tier — with red carpet access, soundcheck and exclusive merch… and i didn’t get any of it. in my experience, axs and their venue and organizers can be a bit disorganized so next time, i’ll definitely do more research.
*tip #2: always check twitter or reddit the night before the concert — fans usually post the most accurate and up-to-date info.
the concert started around 6:10pm and opened with tvxq. i've linked above the fancams playlist, feel free to check them out! for the LA show, the lineup included 14 groups. each group / artist did 2 or 3 songs each. my fave groups from sm are exo and snsd. sadly, no one from snsd was part of the LA show but they were in LA doing an event with LSM. the flow of the concert was okay — the first half featured mostly newer-gen idols and the second half focused on the older groups. 2nd gen and 3rd gen performed their solo or new songs. i wore my earplugs all night but i noticed the biggest crowd reaction was during red velvet’s “red flavor” — such a catchy song! not sure why (or maybe from where i was standing?) , the audio mixing for aespa and red velvet seemed off — the bgm overpowered their vocals. we know they can sing, idk why it was mixed that way only during their sets.
this night could’ve been perfect if some of the groups performed their top hits as full units but with sm, that’s always wishful thinking. i really wish exo and shinee had performed their hit songs. the crowd would’ve gone wild. tbh i’m a yg family stan (bigbang is my ult) but since we probably won’t ever get another yg family concert, i’m just happy smtown made a stop in LA. it was amazing seeing all these artists live. overall, it was such a fun and unforgettable night. it still blows my mind how far k-pop has come — events like this used to only happen in korea and now we’re seeing them globally. so many incredible performances and so much energy on stage. everyone really gave it their all.
